Coconut Oil Conditioner for healthy, sleek, hydrated hair from Lucky Heart Cosmetics

Benefits of Coconut Oil for Hair

Coconut oil’s natural properties make it an excellent treatment for various hair concerns, including dryness, frizz, dandruff, and hair growth.

The low molecular weight of coconut oil helps it to penetrate deeply into your hair shaft which means it works harder and more efficiently for your hair than most other natural oils and treatments. So if you’ve got naturally frizzy hair or split ends, coconut oil is your best friend.

This deep penetration means it more easily locks in moisture and provides a protective barrier for your hair. Great news if you use heat styling tools.

Coconut oil is also excellent if you are battling any scalp issues such as dandruff or dryness because it has antimicrobial properties that keep your scalp clean and prevent flakiness and itchiness.

Finally, if you’re big on styling your hair and using lots of products, those products can lead to protein loss. Coconut oil helps reverse that action and maintain the strength and integrity of your hair.

At the end of the day, coconut oil adds moisture to your hair and keeps your scalp clean and healthy. That means no more split ends, stronger hair, and cleaner hair follicles.

How to Use Coconut Oil On Your Hair

The good news is there is no right or wrong way to use coconut oil for your hair. Here are some options to try until you find what’s best for you.

Pre-Wash Treatment

Apply a bit of coconut oil before shampooing your hair to protect it from the harsh effects of cleansing. We know you’re not using any shampoos with sulfates, but if you’re shampooing regularly, it can still lead to dryness, so a small amount of coconut oil is great at preventing that.

That way your hair is both clean and moisturized.

All you need is a small amount of coconut oil, apply it to your dry hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes before your normal wash routine.

Deep Conditioning Mask

Coconut oil is great as an intensive, deep conditioning hair mask treatment. After shampooing, apply a generous amount of coconut oil evenly to damp hair.

For the best results, cover your hair with a shower cap and leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and follow with conditioner if needed.

Leave-In Conditioner

Need some styling help in addition to hydration? Coconut oil makes for a great leave-in product as well.

To keep your hair hydrated and manageable throughout the day, use a small amount of coconut oil and run your hands through the ends of your hair. This is particularly useful for taming frizz and adding shine to your hair.

Scalp Treatment

No one likes an itchy scalp, and an itchy scalp often means dandruff. Fortunately, coconut oil can provide relief.

Similarly to how you would use it for a hair mask, you’ll want to leave the coconut oil on your scalp for at least 20 minutes. When applying, you’ll want to gently massage the product into your scalp. Bonus: regular scalp massages with coconut oil can also promote hair growth by improving your blood circulation.

Detangler

Because coconut oil improves the moisture level in your hair, it also makes for an excellent detangler.

Use it in the shower to help detangle after conditioning or use it when you’re styling to prevent frizz from building up.

Split End Treatment

Split ends are the enemy of a great hair day. Adding a small amount of coconut oil to your split ends will help seal them and prevent them from worsening and help your hair look better groomed and healthier.

Tips for Using Coconut Oil

One of the biggest rules of hair product use is to start small and less is more. And coconut oil is no exception.

Because coconut oil is so effective on its own already, there’s no need to use a ton of product. A little goes a long way, so always start with a small, quarter-sized amount and add more only if needed.

Even though it’s great for your hair, too much can make your hair look greasy.

If you’re just starting out, it’s best to look for coconut oil conditioners instead of starting with raw coconut oil. Raw coconut oil is solid and needs to be warmed up to be used on your hair, so it can be difficult to find the right formula right at first.

Finally, don’t give up on it after one week. Be consistent to really see the change in your hair.
